Charleston went 7-1 through their first eight games, losing only to North Carolina on November 11. The Cougars have continued to roll since then with wins over the Citadel, Presbyterian, North Greenville, Stetson, Coastal Carolina, Hampton and Towson in their last seven.
In Saturday’s matchup versus Towson, the Cougars were outscored 44-34 in the second half and needed overtime to eke out a 76-74 win. Charleston’s Ante Brzovic led the team on 22 points with 12 rebounds.
Over on the North Carolina A&T side, they were 4-4 over their first eight games with losses to Iowa, Iowa State, Gardner-Webb and Wofford. The Aggies are 2-5 since then with losses to Houston, Norfolk State, UTEP, Northeastern and New Mexico State.
North Carolina A&T got a win over Hofstra in their last game. The Aggies were down 40-35 at the break but fought back from there in an 81-79 comeback win. Demetric Horton led the team 21 points with six rebounds.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Charleston in this one. The Cougars had a very close call against a decent Towson team in their last outing. Charleston is doing pretty well overall during this 13-game win streak though—outside of a few close calls here and there. The Cougars have scored 65 or more points in every game this year and shouldn’t have too much trouble posting points in this one. I don’t think the Aggies will keep up if the Cougars get going.
