The Charleston Cougars and the North Carolina Tar Heels meet in college basketball action from the Dean E. Smith Center on Friday night.
The Charleston Cougars will look to build on their 85-78 win over Chattanooga last time out. Reyne Smith led the way with 24 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 5 threes while Dalton Bolon and Jaylon Scott each had 11 points with Scott logging 5 rebounds and a pair of steals to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Charleston in the winning effort. Charles Lampton also added a team-high 8 rebounds while Ryan Larson added a team-high 4 assists and 3 steals.
The UNC Tar Heels will hope to build on their 69-56 win over UNC-Wilmington in their last game. R.J. Davis and Caleb Love each have 17 points with 6 made field goals while Armando Bacot added 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting along with a team-high 9 rebounds to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for UNC in the winning effort. Leaky Black added 7 points to match his 7 rebounds as well in the winning effort for North Carolina.
Charleston is 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall. UNC is 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games following an ATS loss and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall.
I get the case to be made for the Tar Heels laying the points at home, but I was burned by UNC against UNC-Wilmington and I’m a bit hesitant to jump back on board so soon. This is a really good Charleston team and I just think the Cougars will show up and make this final score a lot closer than some folks would think. Not a game I’m rushing to bet, but I’d side with the Cougars and the points here.
