UNC Asheville took a loss to UAB in their opener, getting blown out 102-77. The Bulldogs bounced back with a win over Brevard College 101-44, but then lost to Chattanooga 75-45 to fall to 1-2 on the year.
UNC Asheville got back to .500 on the year in their last game thanks to a 61-55 victory over Tennessee Tech. The Bulldogs scored 34 points in the first half and were able to hang on. Drew Pember topped the team on 16 points with seven rebounds.
Over on the North Carolina side, everything went smoothly over their first three games this year. The Tar Heels beat Loyola MD 83-67, Brown 94-87 and Charleston 94-83 before a tough 93-84 loss to Purdue in the fourth game.
North Carolina struggled during the second half against Tennessee on Sunday, getting outscored in that period 50-40 during an 89-72 loss. Brady Manek led the team on 24 points and Armando Bacot doubled up on 16 points and 12 boards.
North Carolina is 0-5 ATS in the last five at home and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine on Tuesday. The Tar Heels are 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up win. The over is 6-1-2 in UNC Asheville’s last nine Tuesday games.
PICK: I’m going to try the Tar Heels in this one. North Carolina is coming off a pair of tough matchups, and they’re yearning for a blowout opportunity to get back on track. The Tar Heels were out-rebounded 38-30 by Tennessee and had just nine assists to the Vols’ 28 during their last outing.
As for UNC Asheville, they did a reasonable job against Tennessee Tech but had to hold strong in the second half to get the win. It’s likely going to be a front-to-back blowout by the Tar Heels here as they take out the frustration of two consecutive losses, though.
