The Denver Pioneers and the North Dakota Fighting Hawks meet Thursday in college basketball action from the Betty. Denver is 8-16 on the season so far. The Pioneers are coming off a loss to Oral Roberts. As for North Dakota, they’re 4-19 and fell to South Dakota State in their last game. Denver has only been able to win consecutive games once so far this year, and the team hit a 6-14 run to start things off. Since then it’s been wins over Kansas City and Omaha followed by losses to Kansas City and Oral Roberts.
In the matchup versus Oral Roberts, the Pioneers were within one point by halftime. Denver fell behind on a 47-39 deficit in the second on the way to an 89-80 loss, though. Leading scorer Coban Porter put up 26 points with three rebounds off the bench.
Over on the North Dakota side, they started the year at 4-8 but it’s been all downhill from there. The Hawks have since lost to Dixie State, ND State, Omaha, Denver, South Dakota, Western IL, Oral Roberts, UMKC, SD State, South Dakota and South Dakota State again in succession.
Matched up against South Dakota State on Monday, the Hawks posted 27 points in the first half and 37 more in the second during a 70-64 defeat. Reid Grant posted 15 points in the loss, and Bentiu Panoam added 13 points with three boards.
The Hawks are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 overall and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 after an ATS win. The under is 6-1 in North Dakota’s last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Pioneers are 0-4 ATS in their last four Thursday games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 after an ATS loss. The over is 8-1 in Denver’s last nine Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Denver here. There’s not a lot to get excited about in this matchup, though; both teams have been struggling. That said, The Pioneers have managed a couple of decent wins lately, and they took out North Dakota 93-74 in these teams’ last meeting on January 8. I don’t expect a carbon copy here, and the Hawks should look better at home. Still, Denver should have the inside track on a cover if they play to their capabilities.
