The Colgate Raiders and the Northeastern Huskies meet Friday in college basketball action from Matthews Arena. Colgate is 2-2 in their last four games and fell by 11 points to Niagara in their last outing. As for the Huskies, they’re 4-4 so far this season and coming off a win over Detroit Mercy. Colgate started out at 3-2 over their first five games this year, beating Northeastern, SUNY Poly and Syracuse while otherwise falling to NC State and Cornell. Since then it’s been a pair of losses to Harvard and Niagara for the Raiders.
In the Niagara game on Monday, Colgate fell behind 39-26 at the break and didn’t get much closer in a 70-59 loss. Jeff Woodard led the way on 12 points and five boards, while Ryan Moffatt added 11 points with eight rebounds.
Over on the Northeastern side, their year started 0-2 before wins over Boston U, Duquesne and Southern Illinois. The Huskies would lose to Colorado State and Harvard in the next two, then beat Detroit Mercy in their last game.
In the Detroit Mercy win, Northeastern held the Titans to just 25 first-half points in an eventual 66-56 result. Chris Doherty posted 17 points with 15 rebounds, and Jason Strong doubled up as well with 14 points and 10 boards.
The Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 after a straight-up win. The over is 5-0 in Northeastern’s last five Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss. The under is 5-2 in Colgate’s last seven overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Colgate in this one. The last time these teams met (in the first game of the season), Colgate posted a 42-33 edge in the second half on the way to a 65-58 win. Both teams shot around 40 percent, with the Huskies securing a 39-32 edge on the boards. Since then both teams have had mixed results, but Colgate seems to be scoring better overall. We should have another tight matchup on our hands here.
