The Idaho State Bengals and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks meet Thursday in college basketball action from Walkup Skydome. Idaho State is 6-20 so far this year. The Bengals lost to Northern Colorado in their last matchup. As for Northern Arizona, they’re sitting at 9-18 and fell to Southern Utah in their most recent game. Idaho State managed to win just three of their first 19 games this year. The Bengals have done slightly better since with a 3-4 record. The losses in that time have come to Montana State, Eastern Washington, Sac State and Northern Colorado.
In the Monday game versus Northern Colorado, the Bengals kept the pace well in the first half with a 32-34 deficit. Idaho State fell behind further in the second for a 77-70 loss, though. Jared Rodriguez led the team on his 27 points with five rebounds.
Over on the Northern Arizona side, they hit a 6-9 run in their first 15 games and have only been able to win three more since then. The Lumberjacks are sitting on a three-game losing streak to Montana State, Portland State and Southern Utah right now.
On Monday versus Southern Utah, the Lumberjacks were drilled by a 14-31 deficit in the first half. Northern Arizona scored 34 points from there but still lost 79-48. Carson Towt led the team with his 11 points and six assists.
Northern AZ is 6-2 ATS in the last eight overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four Thursday games. The under is 6-2 in the Lumberjacks’ last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Bengals are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and 4-9 ATS in the last 13 after an ATS win. Idaho State is 5-0 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Idaho State. Granted, there’s not much to like about this matchup record-wise, though. That said, the Bengals have been playing better lately during this 3-4 run. They’ve hit 70 or more points in five of the seven games. As for Idaho State, they’ve been spotty on the scoreboard themselves and shot just 34.5 percent in their last game. If nothing else this game should be competitive, and I think Idaho State has a legit shot at the cover.
