The Southern Utah Thunderbirds and the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks meet Friday in college basketball action from Walkup Skydome.
Southern Utah enters this one at 16-3 so far. As for Northern Arizona, they’re 5-14 this year. This will be a rematch of Wednesday’s game featuring these same teams. In that one, Southern Utah bagged a five-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Southern Utah has done a good job at staying consistent this season, and the team is yet to lose consecutive games. The Thunderbirds are on a six-game win streak, taking out Weber State, Benedictine AZ, San Diego Christian, Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.
In the 85-80 win over Northern Arizona on Wednesday, Southern Utah’s Maizen Fausett put up 21 points with nine rebounds and one assist. Dre Marin also had 21 points with six boards and four assists, and John Knight chipped in with 16 points.
Over on the Northern Arizona side, they’ve had the opposite problem of consistency, in that they’ve only won consecutive games once this year. Since their last win over Northern Colorado, the Lumberjacks have lost three to Webers State and Southern Utah.
In the loss to Southern Utah on Wednesday, Northern Arizona’s Cameron Shelton led the team with 25 points, nine assists and seven rebounds. Nik Mains had 18 points with three boards, and Isaiah Lewis added 13 points with nine boards and three assists.
Northern Arizona is 6-1 ATS in their last seven Friday games and 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 home games. The under is 6-2 in the Lumberjacks’ last eight overall and 5-2 in their last seven as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Thunderbirds are 10-4 ATS in their last 15 as a road favorite and 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. The over is 14-4 in Southern Utah’s last 18 overall and 7-1 in their last eight road games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Southern Utah here. Wednesday’s game was a pretty darn good one. The Lumberjacks held a 46-44 halftime lead before the Thunderbirds came back in the second, and both teams shot near 50 percent from the field. Southern Utah was slightly more disciplined with turnovers and rebounding in that one, and I like them to have a good outing on a cover in the rematch.
