The Pacific Tigers and Northern Colorado Bears meet Wednesday in college basketball action at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Pacific Tigers won nine games last year and enter the Leonard Perry coaching era. The Northern Colorado Bears won nine games last year and enter the second year under coach Steve Smiley.
The Pacific Tigers only return three players who played last season, but two of those three players averaged double-digit points. Pacific has a ton of transfers coming in, including Alphonso Anderson from Utah State, Sam Freeman from Minnesota and Nick Blake from UNLV. There’s sure to be growing pains with these new look Pacific Tigers. Jeremiah Bailey returns after averaging 11.4 points and 6.2 rebounds, while Pierre Crockrell II averaged 10.1 points and 4.1 assists. Jordan Bell averaged 6.9 rebounds per game last season.
The Northern Colorado Bears return pretty much all the last year’s main contributors, including a two-time All-Big Sky selection. With five seniors and many consistent players on this roster, there’s no reason why Northern Colorado can’t make a run toward a conference title. Bodie Hume returns after averaging 15.9 points and 7.1 rebounds, while Daylen Kountz averaged 14.1 points and 1.5 assists. Matt Johnson is a third double-digit returning scorer, and Kur Jockuch averaged 8 rebounds.
The Tigers are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games. The Bears are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 Wednesday games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 neutral site games as an underdog. The over is 4-1 in Tigers last 5 overall. The over is 6-1 in Bears last 7 neutral site games.
This line is a bit surprising to me considering the Northern Colorado Bears return pretty much everybody from last season, and they have the best player in this game. The Pacific Tigers have a lot of transfers and have a chance to be better than expected, but we’re getting points with a solid team that has a chance to make a run in the Big Sky. Give me the Bears.
