Northern Iowa vs South Florida 12/12/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The South Florida Bulls and the Northern Iowa Panthers meet Monday in college basketball action from McLeod Center. South Florida comes into this matchup at 3-6 overall. The Bulls beat Charleston Southern in their last game. As for Northern Iowa, they’re 3-6 as well and fresh off a loss to McNeese State. South Florida lost five straight games to start out the year, then got a win over Saint Joseph’s on November 22. Since then the Bulls are 2-1, losing to UMass in between wins over St. Francis BK and Charleston Southern. 

On Friday versus Charleston Southern, the Bulls jumped out to a 39-24 halftime lead. USF kept up the pressure with 40 second-half points in a 79-59 win. Tyler Harris led the team on 15 points, and both Russel Tchewa and Jamir Chaplin added 14 points apiece. 

Over on the Northern Iowa side, they hit a 1-3 stretch to open up their year. The Panthers are 2-3 in the five games since. The wins have come over Northern Illinois and Evansville; the losses were to Bradley Toledo and McNeese State. 

In the Friday matchup versus McNeese State, the Panthers took a 27-23 deficit into halftime. Northern Iowa had a 26-25 advantage from there but lost 52-49. Trey Campbell led the way on 17 points with six rebounds. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with South Florida. Not going near it, though; there isn’t a whole lot to get excited about with this one. That said, it should be a competitive matchup and a fun one to watch. The Bulls played pretty well against Charleston Southern in their last matchup, hitting 48.3 percent from the field and 14-of-31 (45.2 percent) from 3-point range. USF has hit 75 or more points in three of their last four games, winning all three. As for Northern Iowa, they’ve hit 72 or more points in two of the last three, so this could end up a high-scoring affair.
