Oakland vs Cleveland State 2/26/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Cleveland State Vikings and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies meet Saturday in college basketball action from Athletics Center O’rena. Cleveland State is coming off a Thursday game versus Detroit. In that one, the Vikings lost by seven points. As for Oakland, they played Fort Wayne in their Thursday matchup. The Grizzlies ended up falling by 11 points. Cleveland State lost consecutive games to start the year, but they haven’t repeated that feat since. The Vikings started out February on a 5-2 run, beating Green Bay, Milwaukee, IUPUI, Milwaukee again and Green Bay in that time. 

On Thursday versus Detroit, Cleveland State was down 33-39 by halftime. The Vikings scored 34 points in the second half but fell 74-67 in a tough one. Tre Gomillion led the way on 12 points with five rebounds and three assists in the defeat.

Over on the Oakland side, they went 16-5 through their first 21 games this year. The Grizzlies’ February began on a rough 2-5 stretch, though. The losses in that time were to Northern Kentucky, Wright State, Youngstown State, Wright State again and Northern Kentucky again. 

Matched up against Fort Wayne on Thursday, the Golden Grizzlies were outscored 31-40 in the first half. Oakland got better with 39 points from there but still lost 81-70. Jalen Moore posted 19 points and Jamal Cain doubled with 12 points and 14 boards. 

The Grizzlies are 1-7 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five at home. Oakland is 1-10 ATS in the last 11 overall. 

Meanwhile, the Vikings are 7-2 ATS in their last nine Saturday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss. The over is 8-1 in Cleveland State’s last nine overall. 

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Cleveland State. This is an odd one though, with both teams coming off losses and looking to find any sort of traction they can. Cleveland State has at least been scoring well lately; they’ve hit 71 or more points in 10 of their last 11 games. Oakland has managed 70 or more in five of their last six though, so we could have a high-scoring outing here. 

The last time these teams met up back on January 13, Oakland posted a 70-65 road win. I like Cleveland State to return the favor here and get some revenge with a cover/win. Should be a good matchup.
