The Detroit Mercy Titans and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies meet Friday in college basketball action from Athletics Center O’rena. Detroit is currently 11-16 overall this year and beat Green Bay in their last game. As for Oakland, they’re fresh off a Wednesday matchup versus IUPUI. In that one the Grizzlies powered out a four-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
The Titans kicked off the year on a shaky pace, going just 8-12 over their first 20 games. Since then Detroit is 3-4 with wins over Cleveland State, Fort Wayne and Green Bay. The losses came to Oakland, Robert Morris, Youngstown State and Milwaukee.
In the Green Bay game last weekend, the Titans were down 37-33 by halftime. Detroit rallied in the second with a 43-34 run and took the victory 76-71. Antoine Davis went off for 41 points, five rebounds and two assists in the win.
Oakland Golden Grizzlies
Over on the Oakland side, they managed to go 8-12 in their first 20 outings as well. The Grizzlies also posted a 3-4 run in their next seven with losses to Youngstown State, Robert Morris, Fort Wayne and Milwaukee in that time.
In Thursday’s matchup with IUPUI, Oakland took a 42-40 edge into the second half. The Grizzlies kept it up from there with a 43-41 edge in an 85-81 win. Both Trey Townsend and Jalen Moore posted 23 points apiece to lead the team.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with Oakland here. You could probably make a case either way, though. These teams last met back on January 23 at Calihan Hall. That one turned out to be a 76-67 road win for the Grizzlies, buoyed by a 38-25 advantage in the first half. The good news for Detroit is that they’ve been scoring very well lately with 76 or more points in four straight games. The Titans also giving up quite a bit on the other side to capable offenses though, so if the Grizzlies get off to a good start I can see them posting a home cover/win in this one. Oakland didn’t exactly dominate against a struggling IUPUI team on Wednesday, though.
