The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys meet Saturday in college basketball action from Gallagher-Iba Arena. West Virginia lost to UCF in their last game, dropping the Mountaineers to 7-12 overall. As for Oklahoma State, they’re sitting on a six-game losing streak at 8-11 after a loss to TCU on Tuesday. West Virginia Mountaineers

The Mountaineers strangely haven’t won consecutive games yet this year. West Virginia is a rough 2-5 over their last seven outings, taking losses to Ohio State, Houston, Kansas State, Oklahoma and UCF in that time alongside a pair of victories over Texas and Kansas otherwise.

In the UCF game on Tuesday, the Mountaineers were drilled 37-24 in the first half. West Virginia was able to keep the pace from there on 35 more points in an eventual 72-59 loss. Josiah Harris came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 15 points and eight boards.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

Over on the Cowboys’ side, they got off to a pretty good start this year at 8-5 overall. Oklahoma State has hit the skids since then however, losing six straight games. Those defeats came courtesy of Baylor, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and TCU in succession.

Matched up against TCU on Tuesday, the Cowboys were looking pretty good after one half with a 37-33 lead. Oklahoma State was outscored 41-32 in the second however, and lost 74-69 in the end. John-Michael Wright led the team with 16 points, two rebounds and a steal in the losing effort.

ANDREW’S FREE WEST VIRGINIA VS OKLAHOMA STATE PREDICTION

I’m going to take a stab on West Virginia. This one seems like a coin flip, though. The Mountaineers are a weird team this year: one game they’ll post a dud like they did against UCF with 36.2 percent shooting and a 45-34 rebounding deficit. In another game they’ll stand tall and beat an ultra-talented team on the national stage, like they did with Texas and Kansas recently. Saturday’s game being a road matchup doesn’t necessarily bode well for West Virginia, though.

As for Oklahoma State, this is a good opportunity for them to stop the bleeding at home and finally get back into the win column. The Cowboys haven’t hit 70 points in four straight games though, so they’re going to have to get the offense moving here. We’ll have an interesting matchup if nothing else.
