The BYU Cougars and the Oklahoma Sooners meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Lloyd Noble Center. BYU is 16-5 overall this year. The Cougars are fresh off a win over West Virginia. BYU Cougars
The Cougars opened up on a good run, falling to only Utah, Cincinnati and Baylor over their first 15 games this year. BYU is 4-2 since then with losses to Texas Tech and Houston sandwiched between wins over UCF, Iowa State, Texas and West Virginia during that time.
In the West Virginia game on Saturday, the Cougars jumped out to a 38-29 edge by halftime. BYU kept it up in the second on a 48-44 run and took the victory in the end 86-73. Fousseyni Traore led the team with his 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists in the win.
Oklahoma Sooners
Over on the Sooners’ side, they got off to a great start as well with only a loss to North Carolina in their first 14 games. Oklahoma is just 3-5 since then though with losses to TCU, Kansas, Texas, Texas Tech and UCF among wins over West Virginia, Cincinnati and Kansas State.
In the UCF matchup over the weekend, the Sooners trailed 34-27 going into the second half. Oklahoma couldn’t get any closer on a 40-36 run from there and lost 74-63 by game’s end. Le’Tre Darthard put up 14 points and two rebounds off the bench to lead the team.
ANDREW’S FREE BYU VS OKLAHOMA PREDICTION
I’ll stick with BYU. You could probably call this one either way, though. The Cougars played well in their latest win over West Virginia, hitting 48.5 percent from the field with 35 rebounds and 19 team assists. BYU has scored very well over the last five games, with 78 or more points in four of those.
As for Oklahoma, they’ve been below 70 points in three of the last five games but generally they’re a better scoring team than that. The Sooners have been giving up a lot of points to good offenses lately though, so BYU should have some scoring chances here.
