Oklahoma vs Iowa State 1/8/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Iowa State Cyclones and the Oklahoma Sooners meet Saturday in college basketball action from Lloyd Noble Center. Iowa State is currently 13-1 on the year. The Cyclones beat Texas Tech in their last game. As for Oklahoma, they’re 11-3 so far and coming off a loss to Baylor. Iowa State won their first dozen games this year, a run that featured wins over teams like Oregon State, Xavier, Memphis Creighton and Iowa. After a New Year’s Day loss to Baylor, the Cyclones bounced back with a win over Texas Tech. 

Matched up against Texas Tech on Wednesday, the Cyclones went into halftime with a 30-19 lead. Iowa State was outscored 28-21 from there but still hung on for the 51-47 win. Izaiah Brockington led the team on his 14 points and nine boards. 

Over on the Sooners’ side, they came out of the gate at 7-2 this year with losses to Utah State and Butler along the way. Oklahoma then beat Arkansas, TX-Arlington, Alcorn State and Kansas State before losing to Baylor on Tuesday. 

In the Baylor game, Oklahoma carried a 45-36 deficit into the break. The Sooners ultimately didn’t get closer in an 84-74 loss. Tanner Groves led the team with 13 points, and both Jalen Hill and Umoja Gibson pitched in 12 points apiece. 

The Sooners are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 Saturday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up loss. Oklahoma is 2-7 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win. 

Meanwhile, the Cyclones are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 4-0-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. Iowa State is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four at home. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Iowa State here. The Cyclones are coming off a gritty game versus Texas Tech, shooting just 30.6 percent from the field and 28 percent from 3-point range. Iowa State had 18 turnovers and just nine team assists, but stuck out the win with 35 rebounds and a decent performance from the line. 

This one looks to be a higher-scoring affair, though; Oklahoma has hit 70 or more points in each of their last five games so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot of buckets here. Still, I think Iowa State can bang out the cover/win. Should be a fun matchup.
