The West Virginia Mountaineers and the Oklahoma Sooners meet in college basketball action from the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday.
The West Virginia Mountaineers will try to snap a four-game losing skid after an 83-78 loss to Baylor last time out. Erik Stevenson leads the Mountaineers in scoring with 13.8 PPG while Tre Mitchell has 13.4 PPG with a team-high 6 RPG. Joe Toussaint has 10.3 PPG and 3.1 APG and Emmitt Matthews Jr. has 10.4 PPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for WVU up to this point in the year. Kedrian Johnson has a team-high 3.6 APG as well this season. As a team, West Virginia is averaging 78.3 PPG on 46.4% shooting from the field, 35.3% from three and 70.1% from the foul line this season.
The Oklahoma Sooners will look to bounce back from a 79-75 loss to Kansas last time out. Grant Sherfield leads the Sooners in scoring and assists with 17.4 PPG along with 3.4 APG while Tanner Groves has 10.7 PPG and 6.9 RPG to lead the Sooners in rebounding and to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Oklahoma so far this year. West Virginia is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 24-5 in their last 29 road games. Oklahoma is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following an ATS win.
I get the case to be made for either side, but I’m backing the Sooners here. I just don’t trust the Mountaineers to be able to execute against the Sooners and this strong Oklahoma defense. Oklahoma has covered in six straight meetings against West Virginia and in their respective forms, I think the Sooners make it seven straight here. Give me Oklahoma laying the points.
