VCU went 2-2 over their first four games, with losses to Wagner and Chattanooga mixed alongside wins over Saint Peter’s and Vanderbilt. The Rams won three of their next five games, taking out Syracuse, Campbell and Jacksonville State in that stretch.
In the Jacksonville State game back on Wednesday, VCU scored 34 points in the first half and 32 more from there in a steady 66-52 victory. Leading scorer Jayden Nunn posted 20 points and three rebounds in 36 minutes of work.
Over on the Old Dominion side, they lost four of their first six games this year to James Madison, Indiana State, Eastern Carolina and Penn. The Monarchs have since won three of four over Longwood, George Mason and William & Mary.
Matched up against the Tribe, the Monarchs were down by three heading into the break. ODU posted a 45-27 advantage in the second half for the 74-59 victory. Kalu Ezikpe was tops on the team with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
The Monarchs are 0-4 ATS in their last four at home and 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games. The under is 4-1 in ODU’s last five after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Rams are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight Saturday games. VCU is 4-1 ATS in the last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Old Dominion here. The Monarchs have been a mixed bag so far, but they’re coming off a good effort against a spotty William & Mary team. ODU put up 52.7 percent shooting with 34 rebounds and 16 team assists in the win.
As for VCU, they’ve got a couple of solid wins in their last pair but they haven’t been all that inspiring on the scoreboard this year. If Old Dominion can get a good scoring rhythm going here I think they’ll be okay on the cover.
