Western Kentucky began the year at 1-3 with losses to Minnesota, South Carolina and Memphis. After wins versus Alabama A&M, UT-Martin, Rhodes and Eastern Kentucky the Hilltoppers fell again to Buffalo.
In the Buffalo matchup, Western Kentucky fell behind 40-35 in the first half and scored 32 points from there in a 77-67 loss. Team-high scorer Dayvion McKnight finished with 18 points, three rebounds and four assists in the loss.
Over on the Ole Miss side, their year started at 3-1 with wins over New Orleans, Charleston Southern and Elon. After a loss to Boise State, the Rebels took out MS Valley State, Rider and Memphis in their next trio of outings.
Back on Saturday versus Memphis, Ole Miss posted a 30-26 first-half edge and was able to hang on for a 67-63 victory. Jarkel Joiner topped the team on 20 points and eight boards, while Matthew Murrell added 19 points and three rebounds.
The Rebels are 1-4 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and the under is 5-0 in their last five overall. The under is 4-0 in Ole Miss’ last four as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers are 1-4 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 27-11 ATS in the last 38 as an underdog. The over is 11-5 in WKU’s last 16 Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Ole Miss. The Rebels posted a resilient win over a solid Memphis team in their last outing despite shooting a tepid 35.3 percent and getting out-rebounded 39-33. Overall Ole Miss has been scoring well this year with 72 or more points in six of eight outings.
As for Western Kentucky, they did a decent shooting job in their last game versus Buffalo but got destroyed on the boards 42-28 (17-7 offensive). Ole Miss is going to be a stout matchup as well and I don’t know that the Hilltoppers can keep up.
