The Stanford Cardinal and the Oregon State Beavers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Gill Coliseum. Stanford is 14-10 on the season so far and coming off a loss to Oregon. Stanford managed a 10-4 run over their first 14 games this year, but they’ve only been able to win consecutive outings once since then. After their last win over Washington, the Cardinal have fallen to UCLA and Oregon in their most recent pair.
On Thursday versus Oregon, the Cardinal fell behind 24-32 by halftime. Stanford kept the pace from that point on but still lost 68-60. Michael O’Connell led the team on 11 points, and Brandon Angel doubled up with 10 bench points and 10 rebounds.
Over on the Oregon State side, they were only able to win three of their first 13 games over Portland State, Nicholls and Utah. It’s been an eight-game losing streak since then. The Beavers have lost to Utah, Colorado and California in their last trio.
In the California matchup this week, the Beavers had a 31-30 lead by halftime. Oregon State was outscored 30-33 from that point and lost 63-61 in a tough outcome. Maurice Calloo led the way on 18 points with four rebounds during the defeat.
The Beavers are 3-10 ATS in their last 13 at home and 0-4-1 ATS in the last five Saturday games. Oregon State is 5-15-1 ATS in the last 21 overall.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal are 0-4 ATS in the last four after an ATS win and 0-6 ATS in their last six Saturday games. The under is 8-3 in Stanford’s last 11 overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Stanford, but probably not going near this game. Neither team has looked great lately. That said, the Cardinal have hit 70 or more points in two of their last three and generally they’ve been competitive this month. As for Oregon State, they had the close matchup versus California on Wednesday but previously had lost six straight games by double-digits. If Stanford can get their offense going early here they should be fine on a cover opportunity.
