The Florida A&M Rattlers and the Oregon Ducks meet Monday in college basketball action from Matthew Knight Arena. Florida A&M is coming off a 13-17 overall season and a fourth-place finish in the SWAC standings. As for Oregon, they went 20-15 overall last year and made it to the Second Round of the NIT. Florida A&M made some progress over the 2020-21 season (8-12 overall) last year, finishing at 13-17. The Rattlers had a better record in the SWAC games at 11-7, and that left the team in fourth place overall behind Alcorn State, Texas Southern and Southern.
The Rattlers hit a rough seven-game losing streak toward the middle of the season and were 2-11 at one point. Florida A&M rallied in the conference games but still went just 4-5 over the last nine outings. A loss to Alabama A&M in the first game of the conference tournament ended the season for good.
Over on the Oregon side, they failed to better the 21-7 record from 2020-21 last year, going 20-15 overall and 11-9 in the Pac-12 games. The Ducks managed fifth place with that effort, falling behind Arizona, UCLA, USC and Colorado.
The Ducks started the year out on a sketchy 6-6 run, but then won 10 of the next 11 games. Oregon’s regular season finished on another ugly 2-6 run, and they lost to Colorado in the Pac-12 Tournament. The Ducks beat Utah State in the NIT before falling to Texas A&M in the Second Round.
Florida A&M is 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games and the under is 4-1 in their last five road games. Meanwhile, the Ducks are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 overall and the over is 4-1-2 in their last seven overall.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with Oregon. The Ducks have been a pretty consistent and steady team for the last 12 years under Dana Altman, but last year was a disappointment. Jacob Young, De’Vion Harmon and Eric Williams are gone from the 2021-22 team and it’ll be up to a pretty good-looking crop of transfers to pick up the slack. Jermaine Couisnard in particular (who comes over from South Carolina) will have a hefty offensive load. Provided the team can gel on the court quickly I think they’ll be fine on a cover here.
