The Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon State is fresh off a win over Stanford that moved the Beavers to 12-16 so far. As for Oregon, they fell to California in their latest outing and dropped to 18-9 on the season. Oregon State Beavers

The Beavers started out the year on a reasonable 9-4 clip, but then hit five straight losses before taking out Arizona and Arizona State. Since then it’s been losses to UCLA, USC, Washington State, Washington, Arizona State, Oregon and California before a win over Stanford.

In their matchup versus the Cardinal on Saturday, the Beavers came out of the break with a 38-32 advantage. Oregon State kept it up with a 47-41 second half and cruised to the win 85-73. Jordan Pope was the team’s leading scorer on 30 points, while Michael Rataj doubled on 22 points and 10 boards.

Oregon Ducks

Over on the Ducks’ side, they started out the season on a nice 13-3 run but have only been able to win consecutive games once since then. Oregon is 5-6 in their last 11 games with losses to Colorado, Utah, Arizona, UCLA, Washington State and California during that time.

Back on Saturday versus California, the Ducks held a modest 34-30 advantage going into the second half. Oregon faded from there on a 39-30 deficit and lost the game 69-64 in the end. Jermaine Couisnard topped the team in the losing effort with 19 points, four rebounds and three assists.

ANDREW’S FREE OREGON STATE VS OREGON PREDICTION

I’m going to take Oregon, but probably staying away. The Ducks are coming off a bad loss to a middling California team in their latest outing, hitting just 35.1 percent from the field and 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from 3-point range. The loss continued a rough scoring trend for Oregon; they’ve been below 65 points in four of the last six games (a 3-3 stretch).

One of those sub-65-point outings was back on February 17 the last time these teams met up. Oregon managed to power out a 60-58 road win in that one but it wasn’t exactly pretty. The Ducks shot just 10.5 percent (2-of-19) from 3-point range and Oregon State managed just 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) themselves. Oregon should be better offensively in familiar surroundings during the home rematch, so if they can get some shots falling early I think they’ll be okay cover-wise.
