Cal Poly started the year out with a blowout win versus Bethesda 94-59. The Mustangs hit the skids after that however, losing to San Francisco, Stanford and Mount St. Mary’s over the next three.
On Wednesday versus Idaho, the Mustangs got back into the win column. Cal Poly had a three-point edge by halftime and scored 43 points in the second for an 82-71 win. Alimamy Koroma led the team with 23 points.
Over on the Pacific side, they kicked off the season with a loss to Stanford then two wins over North Dakota State and North Dakota. The Tigers lost consecutive games to CSU Fullerton and Mount St. Mary’s after that.
In Friday’s matchup versus Idaho, the Tigers trailed 42-39 at halftime. Pacific kept the pace from there but lost 84-81. Donovan Williams was the top team scorer with 19 points and five rebounds.
PICK: I might try Cal Poly in this one. The Mustangs were able to break their win streak with a win over Idaho in their last game. Cal Poly shot a nice 58.8 percent from the field in that one, making 17-of-20 (85 percent) from the line with 25 rebounds. As for Pacific, they shot 47.4 percent against Idaho with a 32-28 rebounding deficit. If the Tigers are as permissive to Cal Poly as they were the Vandals (55.2 percent shooting) I think the Mustangs will cover.
