Portland posted an 8-3 run through their first 11 games. The Pilots were unable to win consecutive outings from late November to early February, though. In the last five, Portland has managed victories over San Francisco, LMU, Bushnell, San Diego and Pepperdine.
On Saturday versus Pepperdine, the Pilots held a 37-33 lead by halftime. Portland was outscored 40-41 from there but held on for the 77-74 victory. Moses Wood led the team on his 24 points with eight boards and three assists.
Over on the Pacific side, their year began at a reasonable 4-3 but they haven’t won two games in a row since. The Tigers are on a 1-5 stretch with losses to Pepperdine, USC, Gonzaga, San Diego and San Francisco in that time.
On Monday in the San Francisco game, the Tigers were drilled 24-48 in the first half and 47-56 in the second for a 104-71 blowout loss. Jeremiah Bailey topped the squad on his 20 points with eight rebounds and one assist.
The Tigers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss and 1-5 ATS in their last six Thursday games. Pacific is 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 overall.
Meanwhile, the Pilots are 10-22 ATS in the last 32 Thursday games and 12-2 ATS in the last 14 road games. Portland is 4-1 ATS in the last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Portland here. The Pilots have done a good job over this 5-0 run. They’ve hit 69 or more points in each victory and seem to be getting into a good offensive rhythm. As for Pacific, they’ve had a difficult stretch of opponents lately and haven’t quite found their form. These teams last met up back on January 27 in a 64-56 home win for the Pilots. I like this one to be a little higher-scoring in a cover/win from Portland.
