Penn State vs Delaware State 12/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Delaware State Hornets and the Penn State Nittany Lions meet Thursday in college basketball action from Bryce Jordan Center. Delaware State is sitting at 1-11 overall so far. The Hornets lost to Wagner in their last game. As for Penn State, they’re 9-3 this year and fresh off a win over Quinnipiac. Delaware State has just one win versus Immaculata this year. Otherwise it’s been losses to Virginia Tech, Villanova, Columbia, UConn, Liberty, St. Francis BK, Longwood, Delaware, Georgian Court, Drexel and Wagner. 

Matched up against Wagner last week, the Hornets took a 28-25 deficit into the break. Delaware State was outscored 30-26 from there in a 58-51 loss. Brandon Stone put up 23 points to lead the team. 

Over on the Penn State side, they went 5-1 over their first six games this year with a lone loss to Virginia Tech. The Lions are 4-2 since then with wins over Lafayette, Canisius, Illinois and Quinnipiac alongside losses to Clemson and Michigan State. 

In the Quinnipiac game last Thursday, the Lions were up 33-23 by halftime. Penn State cruised from there in a 77-68 win. Tops in scoring was Jalen Pickett with 21 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Andrew Funk added 16 points as well. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Penn State. Also probably staying away, though; the line’s a little too thick to mess with. The Lions didn’t have too much trouble with Quinnipiac in their last game despite shooting a rough 6-of-29 from 3-point range and getting out-rebounded 48-40 (17-8 offensive). That said, Penn State has been cruising along nicely over the last three games with 74 or more points in each. As for Delaware State, not much has gone right this year. Considering the Hornets haven’t reached 70 points in five straight games I don’t think they’ll keep up in this one whatsoever.
