The Harvard Crimson and the Penn Quakers meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Palestra. Harvard is 11-9 so far this year. The Crimson lost to Yale in their last game. As for Penn, they’re 10-12 and fresh off a win over Cornell. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Harvard posted a decent 8-5 run over their first 13 games this year, but they’ve been choppy since then. The Crimson are just 3-4 over their last seven games. They’ve taken losses to Cornell, Penn and Yale (twice) in their last five outings.

On Wednesday versus Yale, the Crimson were outscored 26-32 by halftime. Harvard made a run in the second half but ultimately fell short in a 62-59 loss. The team’s leading scorer was Mason Forbes on 22 points and four rebounds.

Over on the Penn side, their year began at a dismal 3-10 but things have improved greatly since then. The Quakers are 5-1 in their last six games. They’ve beaten Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, Columbia and Cornell during that stretch.

Last weekend versus Cornell, the Quakers had a seven-point lead by halftime and were able to hang on for the 73-68 road victory. Tops in scoring was Jordan Dingle on 19 points, and Max Martz added 16 points with three boards.

The Quakers are 5-1 ATS in their last six at home and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games. Penn is 4-0 ATS in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Crimson are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 overall. Harvard is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Penn here. I could probably go either way on this one, though; it should be close. That said, the Quakers are coming home after three tough road victories and they’re playing pretty well right now. The last time these teams met up back on January 28, Penn pulled off a 78-74 road win. The Quakers have hit 73 or more points in four straight games, so this one should be a high-flying affair as well. Ultimately I like Penn to pull of the cover, but Harvard is going to be a tough customer.
