The Harvard Crimson and the Penn Quakers meet Saturday in college basketball action from the Palestra. Harvard comes into this one at 12-8 on the year. The Crimson beat Cornell in their last game. As for Penn, they’re sitting at 10-11 following a win over Hartford on Monday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Harvard Crimson

Harvard lost six of their first 16 games, falling to Louisiana, Fordham, UMass, Howard, Kansas and Princeton. The Crimson have gone 2-2 since then with wins over Columbia and Cornell alongside losses to Yale and Dartmouth.

In the Cornell matchup last Saturday, the Crimson were up 49-46 by halftime. Harvard kept it going in the second with a 46-43 run in an eventual 95-89 victory. Tops in scoring was Chris Ledlum with 24 points and eight rebounds.

Penn Quakers

Over on the Penn side, they lost to Iona, Missouri, Towson, West Virginia, Saint Joseph’s, La Salle, Villanova and Cornell in their first 16 outings. Over the last five, the Quakers are 2-3 with losses to Dartmouth, Princeton and Yale.

Matched up against Hartford on Monday, the Quakers managed a nice 37-28 run in the first half. Penn got better from there on a 39-24 second half and took the blowout win 76-52. Jordan Dingle was tops on 23 points.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably take a stab on Penn. Also probably not going near this one; it should be pretty close. That said, Penn has gone 5-4 over their last nine games so they’re not exactly storming through the schedule like a powerhouse. The Quakers have scored pretty well in that time, however; 69 or more points in seven of those nine outings. As for Harvard, they’re on a sketchy 3-3 stretch themselves with 66 or fewer points in each of the there losses. This game could go a lot of different ways. I’m leaning slightly toward Penn but you could make a case for Harvard as well.
