The Florida A&M Rattlers and the Portland Pilots meet in college basketball action from the Chiles Center on Wednesday night.

The Florida A&M Rattlers will try to bounce back from an 80-45 loss to Oregon in their season opener. Jordan Chatman and Jordan Tillman each had a team-high 8 points, with Chatman shooting a much more efficient 4 of 7 from the floor while Tillman shot 3 of 12 from the field along with a pair of assists. Jaylen Bates added 7 points and a team-high 5 rebounds off of the bench as well in the loss.

The Portland Pilots will be hoping to build on their season-opening 89-62 win over Lewis & Clark in their last game. Vasilije Vucinic and Mike Meadows each had a team-high 18 points with Meadows shooting 7 of 9 with a pair of threes and 5 assists while Vucinic went 6 of 7 with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Kristian Sjolund had 13 points with a team-high 8 rebounds while Tyler Robertson added 11 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists as well in the win.

Florida A&M is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games and 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss by 20 or more points while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 road games. Portland is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Wednesday games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games following a win.

I get the case to be made for either side in this game, but I’m leaning towards Portland. Florida A&M just had nothing going for them against Oregon, and while I’m not likening the Pilots to Oregon, the reality is that this may be one of the better Portland teams we’ve seen in recent memory as the top-end is loaded for the Pirates. Florida A&M just doesn’t have to horses to hang with anyone in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Not running to the window to bet this thing, but I’d lean towards Portland if forced to pick.
