The San Diego Toreros and the Portland Pilots meet in college basketball action from the Chiles Center on Thursday night.

The San Diego Toreros will look to build on a 60-54 win over Pacific last time out. Marcellus Earlington leads the Toreros in scoring with 13.8 PPG and 6.7 RPG while Jase Townsend has 10.5 PPG with 2.8 RPG as the only other Torero to average double digits in scoring so far this season. Joey Calcaterra has 8.8 PPG while Terrell Brown has 8.4 PPG and a team-high 6.8 RPG this season. As a team, San Diego is averaging 67.1 PPG on 43.3% shooting from the field, 35.2% from three and 71.4% from the foul line while allowing 66 PPG on 42.7% shooting from the field and 30.9% from three this season.

The Portland Pilots will try toad to an 84-39 win over subdivision Bushnell last time out. Tyler Robertson leads the Pilots across the board with team-highs of 14.8 PPG, 6.6 RPG and 4.1 APG while Chris Austin has 13.6 PPG with 4.9 RPG this season. Moses Wood has 13 PPG with 5.8 RPG and Mike Meadows has 10.3 PPG with 3.3 RPG and 3.2 APG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Portland so far this season. As a team, Portland is averaging 72.7 PPG on 42.7% shooting from the field, 33.8% from three and 80.1% from the foul line while allowing 71.3 PPG on 41% shooting from the field and 33% from three this season.

San Diego is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following a win. Portland is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a favorite.

I get the case to be made either way here as we’re not really used to seeing Portland as a favorite so the ATS marks can be a bit skewed, but San Diego has been beat up in spots on the road. Instead, I’m going to side with the over. These are two sides that are capable of scoring into the high-60s on each other at the very least and I think what we have here is a game where defense may end up being optional. Not a game I’m rushing to bet, but if forced to pick, I’d back the over here.
