The San Francisco Dons and the Portland Pilots meet Saturday in college basketball action from Chiles Center. San Francisco is 18-5 this year so far and coming off a win versus BYU. As for Portland, they’re 11-11 this year. The Pilots lost to Saint Mary’s in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

San Francisco got off to a nice 15-2 start this year with losses to only Grand Canyon and Loyola. It’s been a choppy 3-3 run since. The Dons have losses to BYU, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s mixed with wins over Pepperdine, Santa Clara and BYU in that time.

In the rematch versus BYU on Thursday, the Dons jumped out to a 40-25 lead and were able to hang on in a 73-59 win. Yauhen Massalski doubled with 16 points and 13 boards, while both Khalil Shabazz and Gabe Stefanini posted 15 points apiece.

Over on the Portland side, their year began at 8-3 but the Pilots haven’t been able to win consecutive games since then. Portland is 1-4 in their last five with losses to Loyola Marymount, BYU, Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s.

In the Saint Mary’s game, the Pilots managed just 28 points in the first half and 26 in the second for a 75-54 blowout defeat. Portland’s Tyler Robertson put up 15 points to lead the team, and Mike Meadows added 10 points with three boards.

The Pilots are 5-0 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS loss. Portland is 21-44-1 ATS in their last 66 at home.

Meanwhile, the Dons are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 road games and 11-31-2 ATS in their last 44 Saturday games. San Francisco is 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 overall.

PICK: I’m going to stay with San Francisco. The Dons have faced some tricky opponents lately but they’ve been very competitive for the most part (outside of a 16-point loss to a great Gonzaga team). San Francisco has hit 70 or more points in each of the last four and shouldn’t have much trouble scoring here. As for Portland, they’ve given up 179 combined points over their last pair and will get overwhelmed if the Dons hit a solid pace early. Should be San Francisco’s cover to take.
