Jackson State Tigers
The Tigers only managed an 8-14 record over their first 22 games. Following a four-game losing streak to finish of January, Jackson State recovered on wins versus MS Valley State, AR-Pine Bluff, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. It’s been losses to Alcorn State and Texas Southern in the last pair.
In the Texas Southern matchup on Saturday, Jackson State was ahead by a slim 33-32 edge at the break. After finishing off on a 48-37 deficit, Jackson State ended up losing 80-70. Ken Evans posted the high team score with 19 points, four assists and six rebounds.
Prairie View A&M Panthers
Over on the Prairie View A&M side, they had a mild bit of success in January/February with a 5-4 run over nine games. The Panthers have gone 0-5 since then, though. The losses came versus Southern, Grambling, AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State and Alcorn State.
Over the weekend in the Alcorn State game, the Panthers held a three-point edge by halftime. Prairie View couldn’t hang on during a 43-32 second half though, and lost 73-65 in the end. Brian Myles led the team with his 22 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in 40 minutes.
ANDREW’S FREE JACKSON STATE VS PRAIRIE VIEW PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Jackson State I suppose. There’s not a lot of intrigue here with both teams struggling but it should be a good game. The Tigers were out-rebounded 38-30 in their latest loss to Texas Southern and also coughed up 10 turnovers for 17 opposition points. If there’s good news lately it’s that Jackson State has hit 70 or more points in five of the last six games.
The last time these teams met up, the Tigers took a 71-62 home loss on January 20. The Tigers shot just 38.5 percent from the field in that one and had 17 turnovers. This rematch is going to take a much better effort, but considering Jackson State is playing better lately I think they’ve got a shot at it.
