The Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs and the Presbyterian Blue Hose meet Saturday in college basketball action from Templeton Physical Education Center. Gardner-Webb is 15-11 on the year so far and lost to Winthrop in their last game. As for Presbyterian, they’re currently 11-17 this year. The Hose lost to USC Upstate in their last appearance. Gardner-Webb started out the year at a shaky 4-7 but they’ve gotten a lot better since then—outside of a three-game losing streak in January. The Bulldogs recently had a six-game win streak going, but that was snapped versus Winthrop in their last game.
In Wednesday’s matchup versus Winthrop, the Bulldogs were outscored 32-37 in the first half and 38-44 from there in an 81-70 loss. Gardner-Webb’s leading scorer was Lance Terry on 21 points and two steals in 30 minutes of work.
Over on the Presbyterian side, they got off to a solid 6-3 start this year. The Hose have only been able to win consecutive games once since then, however. Presbyterian is on a four-game losing streak to Hampton, High Point, Winthrop and USC Upstate right now.
On Wednesday in the USC Upstate game, the Hose held the pace in the first half. Presbyterian was outscored 25-30 after the break in a 60-55 loss. Winston Hill was the only double-digit team scorer on 17 points and five boards.
The Hose are 11-4 ATS in the last 15 after an ATS loss and the over is 4-1 in their last five Saturday games. The under is 8-1-1 in Presbyterian’s last 10 as a home underdog.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in the last four road games and 6-2 ATS in the last eight overall. The under is 9-2 in Gardner-Webb’s last 11 overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Gardner-Webb here. The Bulldogs saw a nice win streak snapped by Winthrop in their last game, but the team has been doing well in comparable matchups recently. The Bulldogs managed a 64-61 home win the last time these teams met up back on January 12. Granted, I’d be more comfortable on Gardner-Webb here if they’d been scoring well lately (less than 70 in nine of their last 11) but I think they’ll create enough offense for a cover in the rematch.
