USC Upstate Spartans
USC Upstate didn’t quite hit the .500 pace over their first 20 games, going a sketchy 9-11 overall. The Spartans are 4-3 in their last seven outings, beating UNC Asheville, Charleston Southern, Winthrop and Longwood with losses to Radford, Campbell and High Point.
In Saturday’s High Point game, the Spartans took a 39-31 deficit into the locker room. USC Upstate was outscored 42-35 in the second half and lost 81-66. Both Trae Broadnax and Khydarius Smith scored a team-high 14 points.
Presbyterian Blue Hose
Over on the Presbyterian side, their year opened on a rough 5-17 stretch through 22 outings. The Blue Hose have lost to Winthrop, Radford, Gardner-Webb, Longwood, UNC Asheville, High Point and Campbell in the seven games since then.
In the Campbell game on Saturday, the Hose were drilled 44-17 in the first half alone. Presbyterian scored 40 points in the second but didn’t get close in a 74-57 loss. Marquis Barnett, Jalen Forrest and Kobe Stewart each scored 13 points.

I’ll stick with USC Upstate here. Probably not going near this one, though; there’s not a lot to get excited about here. The Spartans had four consecutive wins going before their dud versus High Point over the weekend. The good news is that USC Upstate has scored 66 or more points in six straight games so they should post a decent total here as well. That said, the Spartans didn’t play especially well the last time these teams met up back on January 18 at G. B. Hodge Center. USC Upstate eked out a 61-60 win but it was a dicey one. The Spartans will certainly need a better effort in this road rematch, and I think they’ll get it.
