Yale was just 6-8 back in late December and needless to say things were looking grim. The Bulldogs have improved greatly since then; they’ve lost just three games during this calendar year. Yale last fell to Cornell; since then they’ve beaten Brown and Pennsylvania.
In the Saturday tournament matchup versus Penn, the Bulldogs took a three-point lead into halftime. Yale kept it going with a 35-32 second-half run in a 67-61 win. Azar Swain was the top scorer on the team during the victory with 25 points and two rebounds.
Over on the Princeton side, their season started out a little shaky at 5-3. The Tigers have just two losses (to Yale and Cornell) since then, however. Princeton is on a nice eight-game win streak right now; they’ve taken out Harvard (twice), Penn and Cornell in their last quartet.
Matched up against Cornell on Saturday in the tournament, the Tigers held a 40-35 advantage by halftime. Princeton was outscored 37-38 from there but still won 77-73. Leading scorer Jaelin Llewellyn posted 23 points, and Tosan Evbuomwan added 21 points with six assists and six rebounds.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Princeton here. The Tigers are on a nice run right now, despite a tepid second half against Cornell on Saturday. Princeton has been great on offense for most of the year; they’ve hit 72 or more points in each of their last 22 games. There have been several close escapes and a few off games in that time, though.
As for Yale, they’ve got a couple of impressive wins going in their last pair. The Bulldogs won the road matchup with Princeton back on January 29 but fell 81-75 in the home rematch February 19. This matchup should be another fun game to watch, and I think Princeton can power through a cover this time.
