The Georgetown Hoyas and the Providence Friars meet Wednesday in Big East Tournament college basketball action from Madison Square Garden. Let’s get into our Georgetown vs. Providence prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Georgetown Hoyas

The Hoyas got off to a 7-4 start through their first 11 games this year. That said, Georgetown has just two wins (both over DePaul) since December 16. Following their latest victory on February 24, the Hoyas have since fallen to Villanova, Xavier, Providence and St. John’s.

In the St. John’s game on Saturday, the Hoyas fell behind 39-35 going into the second half. Georgetown hit a 47-43 run the rest of the way and took the loss 86-78 in the end. Jayden Epps was the team’s top scorer with his 23 points, five rebounds and six steals in the losing effort.

Providence Friars

Over on the Friars’ side, they got off to a 14-6 start this year then lost three of the next four games as February began. Providence is 4-3 in their last seven with wins over St. John’s, DePaul, Xavier and Georgetown. The losses otherwise were to Marquette, Villanova and UConn.

In the UConn matchup over the weekend, the Friars were drilled 42-24 by halftime. Providence got slightly better from there on 36 more points but still took a loss 74-60. Leading the teaming the losing effort was Devin Carter with 24 points and 15 boards. Josh Oduro also doubled on 13 points and 11 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE GEORGETOWN VS PROVIDENCE PREDICTION

I’ll lean toward Providence here. The Friars didn’t stand much chance against UConn in their last outing, and would eventually shoot just 35.1 percent from the field with 15 turnovers. Providence stayed competitive on the boards (38) but notched only seven team assists. That makes fewer than 70 points in three of the last four games.

In the March 5 matchup between these teams, Providence pulled off a 71-58 win on the road. The Friars shot 49.1 percent from the field in that one and held the Hoyas to just 35.1 percent shooting on defense. This rematch should look similar if the Friars play to their capabilities.
