The New Hampshire Wildcats and the Providence Friars meet Thursday in college basketball action from Dunkin’ Donuts Center. New Hampshire is 1-1 on the young season so far and coming off a loss to Marquette. As for Providence, they’re 3-0 thus far and took out Wisconsin in their last outing. New Hampshire played St. Joseph’s (ME) in their first game of the year. The Wildcats jumped out to a 51-29 halftime edge and rolled toward a 98-53 win. Tops in scoring was Jayden Martinez with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

In game two, the Wildcats hit their first trouble of the season in Marquette. New Hampshire kept the pace in the second half but couldn’t stay with it in a 75-70 defeat. Martinez was again the lead scorer in that one with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Over on the Providence side, they opened up against Fairfield this year. The Friars scored 42 first-half points there on the way to an 80-73 victory. In game two, Providence recorded another win. This time it was 92-64 over Sacred Heart.

The Friars posted their biggest win so far in game three versus Wisconsin. Providence held a 34-23 halftime advantage and were able to hang on for a nice 63-58 win. Nate Watson led the way with his 24 points and six rebounds.

Providence is 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a favorite. The under is 4-1 in the Friars’ last five after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games. New Hampshire is 5-1-1 in their last seven after a straight-up loss.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Providence. The Friars have shown some real talent over the course of their first three games. Providence slowed things down against Wisconsin, shooting 40.7 percent with a 44-35 rebounding edge that kept the Badgers at bay.

As for New Hampshire, they had a shot against Marquette in their last game but couldn’t overcome a tepid 38.6 percent shooting performance with just 14-of-24 made from the line. I don’t think the Wildcats will be able to navigate the Friars defense well enough to cover in this one.
