The Seton Hall Pirates and the Providence Friars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Here’s a Providence vs Seton Hall prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Providence vs Seton Hall pick.

Seton Hall Pirates Betting Preview

The Pirates have been a pretty mixed bag so far this year, and they’ve fallen below .500 on the season amid some tough matchups lately. Seton Hall opened up on a 3-2 stretch, losing to Fordham and Hofstra with wins otherwise over Saint Peter’s, Wagner and VCU. The next four games were a 2-2 run, as the Pirates took out Florida Atlantic and NJIT among losses to Vanderbilt and Monmouth. Since then it’s been a 1-5 stretch, though. Seton Hall fell to Oklahoma State, Rutgers, Villanova, Georgetown and Xavier in succession, then eked out a win over DePaul in overtime during their last outing for a 6-9 overall run this season so far.

In the DePaul game on Wednesday, the Pirates held a 41-26 deficit by halftime and things were looking grim. Seton Hall scored a whopping 42 points in the second half however, powering out an eventual victory 85-80 thanks to 17 points in overtime. Leading the team during the comeback were Isaiah Coleman and Dylan Addae-Wusu, each with 24 points alongside a combined 13 assists and 10 rebounds. Leading the way off the bench was Prince Aligbe with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Both Scotty Middleton and Jahseem Felton added seven points apiece off the bench in the winning effort as well.

Providence Friars Betting Preview

Over on the Providence side, they opened up their season on a very nice run, however the Friars have hit the skids since late November. Providence won each of their first five games though, taking out Central Connecticut State, Stonehill, Hampton, Green Bay and Delaware State. Three consecutive losses came after that versus Oklahoma, Davidson and Indiana, then came a 2-1 run. Those wins were over BYU and DePaul around a lone loss to Rhode Island. Providence hit a slide once again however, taking losses to St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Marquette and UConn in the next four games before snapping the losing streak versus Butler in their last game. The result so far is an 8-8 record for a .500 mark on the season.

Matched up against Butler on Wednesday, the Friars were looking good after the first half following a 37-29 advantage. Providence posted a 47-36 run the rest of the way, eventually rolling to a 47-36 victory in the end. Leading the team in scoring among the starters was Jayden Pierre with 18 points, three boards and two assists. Bensley Joseph came off the bench to provide 18 points as well, along with five boards, two assists and a steal. Wesley Cardet added 17 points with four rebounds, and Ryan Mela doubled up on 18 points with three rebounds and two assists in the victory effort for the Friars.

Why the Providence Friars will win

  • Providence has won each of its last 12 day games at Amica Mutual Pavilion following a home win.
  • Seton Hall has lost each of its last five day games.
  • Seton Hall has lost the first half in each of its last seven day games against the Big East Conference.

Why the Seton Hall Pirates will win

  • Providence has lost seven of its last eight day games.
  • The road team has won each of the last four games between Seton Hall and Providence.
  • Seton Hall has won the first half in each of its last four games against Providence.

Providence vs Seton Hall Prediction

I’ll stick with Providence, but I’m probably not touching this one. Neither team inspires much confidence lately. That said, Providence is coming off a pretty convincing win over Butler, notching 48.6 percent shooting with a nice 43-36 rebounding edge and only eight turnovers in that one. The Friars are just 1-4 in their last five games, but they’re still scoring well with 70 or more points in four of those outings. Providence has given up 72 or more points in each of those four losses though, so Seton Hall should have some openings here.

Speaking of the Pirates, they shot a nice 52.7 percent from the field with 34 rebounds in their latest win over DePaul. Seton Hall has given up 79 or more points in three of the last four games themselves however, so this one could be a high-scoring finish if neither team can clamp down on defense.
