The Iowa Hawkeyes and the Purdue Boilermakers meet Friday in college basketball action from Mackey Arena. Iowa is rolling along this year at 7-0 and coming off a win over Virginia. As for the Boilermakers, they’re 7-0 as well and took out Florida State in their last appearance. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Iowa has really only had one close call so far this year and they’re playing well. The Hawkeyes have made their way through Longwood, UMKC, NC Central, Alabama State, Western Michigan, Portland State and Virginia cross their first seven games.
In the matchup versus the Cavaliers, Iowa jumped out to a 44-30 halftime lead but had to hang on in the second in an eventual 75-74 win. Leading the way for the Hawkeyes was Jordan Bohannon with 20 points, two assists and one rebound.
Over on the Purdue side, they’re on a hot streak themselves. The Boilermakers’ first seven games contained wins over Bellarmine, Indiana State, Wright State, North Carolina, Villanova, Omaha and Florida State, each by at least six points.
In their last game against Florida State, the Boilermakers posted a 48-32 edge in the first half and a 45-33 run from there on the way to a 93-65 blowout win. Jaden Ivey was the leading scorer on 18 points with six rebounds and two assists.
Purdue is 5-0 ATS in the last five overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four at home. The over is 24-8 in the Boilermakers’ last 32 at home and 5-1 in their last six after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes are 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall and the under is 7-1 in their last eight road games. The over is 8-1 in Iowa’s last nine overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Iowa in this one. The Hawkeyes got into a little bit of trouble in the second half of their last game versus Virginia, but get credit for pulling off the win. Iowa shot 53.6 percent from the field in that one with 30 rebounds, 12 team assists and just four turnovers.
As for Purdue, they shot a scorching 59.3 percent against Florida State, picking up 36 rebounds and 23 assists along the way. This one could very well turn into a shootout as well, so Iowa is going to need to get the offense going early. If the Hawkeyes get off to a good start here I can see them keeping the pace and covering. Should be a great game to watch.
