Manhattan Jaspers
The Jaspers’ season started with a sketchy 6-13 run through their first 19 games. Manhattan is 4-3 since then with wins over Canisius, Siena, Saint Peter’s and Fairfield mixed with losses to Rider, Iona and Marist in that time.
In the Marist game on Friday, the Jaspers took a 32-26 deficit into the break. Manhattan was outscored 49-32 from there and lost 81-58. Josh Roberts put up 14 points with seven rebounds, and Marques Watson added 13 points.
Quinnipiac Bobcats
Over on the Quinnipiac side, they posted a 15-5 record in their first 20 outings this year. The Bobcats are 4-4 over the last eight, beating Marist, Fairfield, Siena and Rider with losses to Iona, Mount St. Mary’s, Niagara and Canisius otherwise.
In the Rider matchup last Sunday, the Bobcats scored 30 points in the first half, 41 in the second and 19 in the two overtime periods for a tense 90-88 victory. Dezi Jones led the team on 28 points and Matt Balanc doubled on 17 points with 11 rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with Quinnipiac here. Probably not touching this one, though. The Bobcats had a tough time disposing of a struggling Rider team in their last game, but to their credit Quinnipiac pulled out the win. The Bobcats now have consecutive wins after three straight losses. These teams last saw each other back on New Year’s Day in an 84-65 Quinnipiac win from Draddy Gymnasium. The Bobcats should be plenty comfortable in the rematch and well-rested after a week off. Quinnipiac should have most of the advantages here.
