The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Quinnipiac Bobcats meet Friday in college basketball action from TD Bank Sports Center. Niagara is 5-6 so far this year and coming off a win over Albany. Niagara hit a 1-3 clip out of the gate this year before notching wins over Youngstown State and Colgate. After three losses to Monmouth, Fairfield and Eastern Michigan, the Eagles beat Buffalo State and Albany.
In the Albany game back on December 18, the Eagles posted a 40-36 advantage in the second half on the way to a 66-58 win. Leading scorer Marcus Hammond put up 20 points with three rebounds and one assist in the victory.
Over on the Quinnipiac side, they went 3-1 to start the year before falling to New Hampshire, Brown and Saint Peter’s. The Bobcats would then win three straight over Manhattan, Dartmouth and Maine.
Matched up against Maine on December 11, the Bobcats scored 29 points in the first half and 44 more from there in a 73-47 win. Kevin Marfo put up 21 points and 13 boards, Bernie Blunt posted 14 points, and Dezi Jones added 11 points with three assists.
The Bobcats are 1-5 ATS in their last six at home and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. Quinnipiac is 1-4 ATS in the last five Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win and 7-2 ATS in the last nine road games. Niagara is 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Quinnipiac. The Bobcats put up a good second half against Maine in their last outing, and got a couple of significant scoring contributions off the bench. Quinnipiac has been scoring well over their last three games with 72 or more points in each.
As for Niagara, they’ve had a few good scoring outings this year but they’ve been pretty erratic when it comes to points totals. I’d think Quinnipiac will score pretty well here, and I think they can outpace the Eagles.
