Radford vs USC Upstate 1/4/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The USC Upstate Spartans and the Radford Highlanders meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Dedmon Center. USC Upstate enters this one at 6-7 overall. The Spartans lost to Charleston Southern in their last game. As for Radford, they’re 7-8 on the season after a win over Presbyterian. USC Upstate was 4-4 after eight games this year, beating Brevard, Coastal Carolina, CIU and Western Carolina. The Spartans have gone 2-3 since then, losing to Florida State, Kennesaw State and Charleston Southern. 

In the Charleston Southern game on Saturday, the Spartans were behind 42-38 by halftime. USC Upstate posted 47 points in the second half but still lost 90-85. Jordan Gainey led the team on 23 points with five assists. 

Over on the Radford side, they went 5-3 over their first eight games with losses to Notre Dame, Marquette and William & Mary. The Highlanders are 2-5 since then with losses to VMI, VCU, Eastern Kentucky, Kansas State and UNC Asheville. 

On Saturday versus Presbyterian, Radford took a 37-28 lead into the second half. The Highlanders posted a 32-23 run from there for a 69-51 win. DaQuan Smith topped the team with 20 points and three rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to stick with USC Upstate here. Probably staying away from this one, though. The Spartans are just 2-3 over their last five games, however they’ve scored 70 or more points in three of those outings and faced a couple of tough teams during that time. USC Upstate is capable of hitting some pretty good points totals, and they’ll probably do fairly well on the scoreboard here. Radford has given up 67 or more points in six of their last eight games, so if USC Upstate gets their offense going I think they’ll be fine.
