The Duquesne Dukes and the Rhode Island Rams meet in college basketball action from the Ryan Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Duquesne Dukes will try to snap a double-digit losing streak after a 74-50 loss to Davidson in their last game. Amir Spears leads the Dukes in scoring and assists with 11 PPG and 2.8 APG while Leon Ayers III has 10.3 PPG with 4.1 RPG. Kevin Easley has 10.3 PPG with a team-high 6.5 RPG to lead the Dukes on the glass and Tre Williams has 10.8 PPG with 5.7 RPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for the Dukes up to this point in the year. As a team, Duquesne is averaging 63.7 PPG on 39.8% shooting from the field, 30.7% from three and 70.1% from the foul line while allowing 71.9 PPG on 47.1% shooting from the field and 38.8% from three this season.
The Rhode Island Rams will hope to snap a three-game losing streak after a 73-55 loss to St. Bonaventure in their last game. Makhel Mitchell leads the Rams in scoring with 11.3 PPG along with 5.8 RPG while Jeremy Sheppard has 10 PPG with a team-high 3.2 APG to lead URI in assists and Makhi Mitchell also has 10 PPG with a team-high 7.5 RPG to lead the Rams on the glass and also make up the group of double-digit scorers for URI so far this season. As a team, Rhode Island is averaging 66.9 PPG on 46.1% shooting from the field, 34% from three and 63.9% from the foul line while allowing 64.2 PPG on 38.5% shooting from the field and 31.9% from three this season.
Duquesne is 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 2-12 ATS in their last 14 games following a loss while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Rhode Island is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games overall.
Both of these teams have been awful in terms of trying to cover the spread, but with that said, the underdog has covered in 17 of the last 21 meetings between the two teams and if forced to pick I’d like to avoid laying double-digits with Rhode Island. I’ll take my chances with Duquesne and the points here.
