Richmond vs George Mason Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 3/4/23

The George Mason Patriots and the Richmond Spiders meet Saturday in college basketball action from Robins Center. George Mason is fresh off a Wednesday game versus Fordham. In that one the Patriots won by six points. As for Richmond, they played Saint Joseph’s in their Wednesday matchup. The Spiders went on to fall by 16 points there. George Mason Patriots 

George Mason managed a 12-10 stretch over their first 22 outings of the season. The Patriots went a solid 5-2 in the next seven, taking wins over UMass, Rhode Island, George Washington, La Salle and Dayton with losses otherwise to Loyola IL and Duquesne. 

In the Fordham game on Wednesday, George Mason scored 23 points in the first half, 25 in the second and 16 in overtime on the way to a 64-58 win. Leading the way was Josh Oduro with 17 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes of work. 

Richmond Spiders 

Over on the Richmond side, they started out the year on a .500 run with an 11-11 record after 22 games. The Spiders went just 3-4 in their next seven, taking losses to St. Bonaventure, George Washington, La Salle and VCU along the way. 

Matched up against Saint Joseph’s on Wednesday, the Spiders were down 35-28 by halftime. Richmond hit a 48-39 deficit from there and lost 83-67. Marcus Randolph and Neal Quinn each scored a team-high 15 points and combined for eight assists.

I’ll probably stick with George Mason here. The Patriots pulled off a great win over Fordham on Wednesday and they’ve now won five straight. George Mason has scored 64 or more points in all five of those outings and 70 or more in three of them. These teams last met up back on New Year’s Eve in a 62-58 George Mason win at EagleBank Arena. With Richmond skidding on a 1-3 stretch right now, I think the Patriots can power out the cover (and maybe the win) in this rematch. Should be a competitive game overall, though.
