The Northern Iowa Panthers and the Richmond Spiders meet in college basketball action from the Robins Center on Friday night.

The Northern Iowa Panthers will be looking to build on their season-opening 105-49 win over subdivision Wartburg last time out. Bowen Born led the Panthers with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a pair of threes while Landon Wolf had 18 points on 5 of 10 shooting with 4 threes and 3 steals. Nate Heise added 14 points and Trey Campbell and Drew Daniel each had 11 poitns to cap off the scoring in double figures for Northern Iowa in the win. Tytan Anderson added a team-high 12 rebounds along with 8 points while Ege Paskari had a team-high 4 assists in the win.

The Richmond Spiders will try to build on a 69-48 win over VMI in their last game. Jason Nelson led Richmond with 13 points while Tyler Burton had 12 points with 11 rebounds for the double-double to lead the Spiders on the glass. Isaiah Bigelow added 11 points to cap off the scoring in double figures in the win while Neal Quinn added 7 rebounds as well in the victory for the Spiders.

Northern Iowa is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Richmond is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall while the under is 15-5-1 in their last 21 games overall.

I get the case to be made for the Panthers and the points here as Northern Iowa is normally a team that has some measure of success in the underdog role. However, Richmond’s just the better team across the board and I do like the pieces that Richmond brought back while Northern Iowa is almost looking to retool this season. I think the Spiders are just the better team here and as such, I’ll lay it and play it with the Spiders here.
