The Monmouth Hawks and the Rider Broncs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Rider University Alumni Gym. Monmouth is 0-7 this year and coming off a loss to Lehigh. As for Rider, they’re currently 1-4 after a loss to Rutgers in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Monmouth hasn’t had any luck so far this year at 0-7. This season the Hawks have fallen to Seton Hall, Virginia, Illinois, Norfolk State, Colgate, Cornell and Lehigh over their first seven outings.

In the Lehigh game back on Sunday, Monmouth trailed by just one point going into the second half. The Hawks were outscored 41-38 from there and lost 80-76. Myles Foster led the scoring with 21 points and five boards.

Over on the Rider side, they haven’t played especially well this year either. The Broncs’ lone win came November 12 over TCNJ. Otherwise it’s been losses to Providence, Stetson, Central Arkansas and Rutgers.

Matched up against Rutgers last Tuesday, the Broncs faced a 35-23 halftime deficit. Rider scored just 23 points in the second half for a 76-46 defeat. Dwight Murray led the team on 17 points and three rebounds.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Rider but I’m probably not touching this one. There’s admittedly very little intrigue involved in a matchup among teams with a combined 1-11 record. That said, Rider has had a few good offensive performances so far; they’ve hit 68 or more points in three of their last four games. Monmouth showed some promise with 76 points in their last game, so if both teams are hitting shots we could have a pretty entertaining matchup. I’m leaning Rider but not going near it.
