The Monmouth Hawks and the Rider Broncs meet in college basketball action from the Alumni Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Monmouth Hawks will look to build on a 75-72 win over Quinnipiac in their last game. George Papas leads the Hawks in scoring and assists with 15.4 PPG, 5.6 RPG and 3 APG while Shavar Reynolds has 14 PPG with 2.9 RPG. Walker Miller’s got 14.8 PPG and 5.9 RPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Monmouth so far this season. Nikkei Rutty also has a team-high 7.6 RPG of his own to lead the Hawks in rebounding so far this season. As a team, Monmouth is averaging 69.4 PPG on 42.3% shooting from the field, 32.2% from three and 73.3% from the foul line while allowing 67.6 PPG on 40.3% shooting from the field and 31.7% from three this season.
The Rider Broncs will look to bounce back from a 65-59 loss at the hands of Fairfield in their last game. Dimencio Vaughn leads the Broncs in scoring and rebounding with 12.6 PPG and 7.8 RPG while Dwight Murray Jr. has 12.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and a team-high 4.5 APG to lead Rider in the assist department this season. Allen Powell has 11.9 PPG with 2.5 APG and Mervin James has 10.6 PPG with 4.9 RPG to cap off the scoring in double-digts this season. Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson also has 8.2 PPG and 6.6 RPG this season. As a team, Rider is averaging 67.1 PPG on 40.4% shooting from the field, 30.8% from three and 73.2% from the foul line while allowing 69.4 PPG on 41.3% shooting from the field and 33.6% from three this season.
Monmouth is 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following an ATS loss. Rider is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 Saturday games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record.
I get the case to be made for a home underdog in certain spots, but realistically, I don’t want any part of Rider in their current form if I’m being honest. The Broncs have been one of the least effective offensive units in the country over the course of the season and that’s not good news against a team like Monmouth that can score points in bunches when called upon. Give me the Hawks laying the points on the road, where they’ve been so good this season at 13-3 ATS.
