The Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Rider Broncs meet Friday in college basketball action from Rider University Alumni Gym. Quinnipiac is 10-5 overall this year and coming off a win over Manhattan. As for Rider, they’re sitting at 6-7 this year. The Broncs lost to Niagara on Monday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Quinnipiac went 8-2 over their first 10 games of the year, losing to only Hofstra and Niagara along the way. Since then it’s been wins over Lafayette and Manhattan around losses to Saint Peter’s, Penn State and Siena.

In the Manhattan game on Sunday, the Bobcats jumped out to a 43-33 halftime lead. Quinnipiac kept it up in the second half and won the game 84-65. Matt Balanc was the lead team scorer on 20 points and three boards.

Over on the Rider side, they were 5-5 over their first 10 with losses to Providence, Stetson, Central AR, Rutgers and Delaware. The Broncs are 1-2 since then with losses to Georgia and Niagara (and a win over Canisius).

Matched up against Niagara on Monday, the Broncs were outscored 33-25 in the first half. Rider made a game of it in the second with 34 points but ended up losing 61-59. Allen Betrand put up 16 points to top the team.

PICK: I’ll probably take a stab on Rider here. The Broncs are just 2-3 over their last five games, but they’ve remained competitive in that time. Rider’s three losses during that stretch each came by six points or fewer, including a solid 78-72 effort versus a very good Georgia squad. Quinnipiac has been scoring well over their last six games, with 68 or more points in four of those. That said, if Rider can get off to a good start I think they’ve got a decent shot at the cover.
