Lafayette hasn’t had much luck this year so far. The Leopards lost their opener 97-63 to Syracuse, but got closer versus Cornell in a 90-85 defeat. Game three was another loss 85-57 to Pennsylvania.
Back on Friday against Duke, Lafayette took another loss to drop to 0-4. The Leopards were outscored 53-28 in the second half on the way to an 88-55 win. Kyle Jenkins topped the team on his 18 points and four rebounds.
Over on the Rutgers side, they had a pretty smooth ride over their first three games. The opener was a tight 73-70 win over Lehigh, then the Knights beat Merrimack 48-35 and NJIT 75-61.
In the Thursday game versus DePaul, Rutgers ran into some trouble. The Knights were outscored 33-29 in the first half and couldn’t come back in a 73-70 loss. Ron Harper doubled up on 19 points with 11 rebounds in the defeat.
The Knights are 19-4 ATS in their last 23 Monday games and 5-1 ATS in the last six after a straight-up loss. Rutgers is 4-1-1 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Leopards are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five as a road underdog. Lafayette is 4-0 ATS in their last four Monday games.
PICK: I’m going to take Rutgers, but probably staying away due to the spread. The Knights weren’t great against DePaul, but still shot 44.4 percent from the floor with 39 rebounds and 17 team assists. As for Lafayette, they’ve really only been close in one game this year and have had issues scoring. Rutgers should bounce back to win this one handily—the question is by how much.
