The Oregon Ducks and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet Monday in college basketball action from the RAC in Piscataway. Here’s a Rutgers vs Oregon prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Rutgers vs Oregon pick.

Oregon Ducks Betting Preview

The Ducks’ season began with four straight wins over Hawaii, Rice, South Dakota State and Oregon State. A five-game losing streak versus Auburn, San Diego State, Creighton, USC and UCLA came next, then two wins over UC Davis and Portland. After a loss to Gonzaga and a win over Omaha, the Ducks were sitting at 7-6 overall through their first 13 games of the season.

In the Maryland game on Friday, the Ducks went into the break with a 34-27 edge. Oregon closed on a 30-27 run in the second half, finishing off a 64-54 victory in the end. Tops in scoring were Nate Bittle (three assists) and TK Simpkins (four assists), each with 16 points and seven rebounds in the win. Kwame Evans also chipped in 12 points with eight rebounds as well.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Rutgers side, they beat Rider, Maine, Lehigh and American in their first four games of the year. The Knights would fall to Central Connecticut, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Purdue, Michigan and Seton Hall over the next seven outings, however. Following two more losses to Penn and Delaware State, Rutgers had a 7-6 overall record in their first 13 games of the year as well.

Matched up against Ohio State on Friday, the Knights were up 41-37 by the end of the first half. Rutgers was outscored 43-32 the rest of the way however, and ended up losing the game 80-73. Tariq Francis led the way in the losing effort with 17 points. The only other player on the team to reach double-figures was Dylan Grant with 14 points and two rebounds in 31 minutes of work on the floor.

Why the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will win

  • Rutgers has won eight of its last 10 games at Jersey Mike’s Arena against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Oregon has lost three of its last four games against the Big Ten Conference.

Why the Oregon Ducks will win

  • Oregon has won 10 of its last 11 night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • Rutgers has lost each of its last five night games against the Big Ten Conference.
  • Rutgers has lost the first half in three of its last four games against Conference opponents.

Rutgers vs Oregon Prediction

I’ll stick with Oregon I suppose. The Ducks were able to handle a middling Maryland team in College Park pretty easily on Friday, holding the Terrapins to just 27.7 percent shooting from the field. Oregon shot 48.9 percent themselves with a 35-30 rebounding advantage and a 32-12 edge on points in the paint. The Ducks did cough up 13 turnovers though, and the foul shooting (13-of-21 for 61.9 percent) could have been better. Oregon has won four of the last five games with 80 or more points in three of those victories, which is nice to see after the five-game losing streak in November/December.

As for Rutgers, they shot 42.2 percent from the field with eight turnovers and a 30-25 rebounding advantage in their latest loss to Ohio State. The Knights gave up 51.9 percent shooting to the Buckeyes on the other side, though. Rutgers is 2-1 in the last three games with 70 or more points scored in two of those outings, but it’s not going to be easy scoring on the Ducks.
