In this article we will formulate a Rutgers vs Rider prediction for this College Basketball game on Wednesday, November 5th at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this College Basketball matchup.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Betting Preview

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights went 15-17 (8-12) last season and they finished 11th in the Big Ten standings. Rutgers opened the season with a 75-52 win over Wagner and followed that up with a 75-65 win over St. Peter’s in their second game. The Scarlet Knights started the season with an 8-5 record through 13 games, but really struggled at the beginning of Big Ten play. The Scarlet Knights finished the regular season by losing five of their last eight games, before losing to USC by a score of 97-89 in double overtime in the Big Ten Tournament to end the season. Rutgers scored 77.0 points per game, which ranked 90th in the country, while they allowed 77.6 points against per game, which ranked 319th.

This season, Rutgers has to replace their top four scorers from last year, which accounted for roughly 52 points and 17 rebounds per game. The Scarlet Knights do return Dylan Grant, who averaged 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, and Jamichael Davis, who averaged 4.6 points and 1.7 assists per game last year.

Rider Broncs Betting Preview

The Rider Broncs are 0-1 this year after they lost to Virginia by a score of 87-53 to start the season. Rider trailed 42-32 at halftime, but they were outscored 45-21 in the second half for the blowout loss. The Broncs shot 32.7% from the field, 25% on three pointers, and 62.1% on free throws in the game. Rider lost the rebounding battle by a total of 49-32, recorded seven assists, and had 14 turnovers in the loss. Flash Burton led the team with 17 points and six rebounds, while Jamir McNeil and Zion Cruz both added seven points in the game.

Rider played a decent first half and they were pretty competitive, but they had a ton of trouble on both ends of the court after halftime. The Broncs allowed Virginia to shoot 46.9% from the field, they allowed 34 free throw attempts, and only forced six turnovers, so the defense was a big issue as well.

Why the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will win

  • Rutgers has won each of its last 13 games against non-Conference opponents at Jersey Mike’s Arena.
  • Rider has lost each of its last seven games against the Big Ten Conference.
  • Rider has lost the first half in each of its last eight games against the Big Ten Conference.

Why the Rider Broncs will win

  • Rutgers has lost each of its last three night games.

Total Points Facts

  • Each of Rutgers’ last 11 night games have produced a total of 143+ points.
  • Eight of Rider’s last nine night games against the Big Ten Conference have produced a total of 141 or fewer points.

Rutgers vs Rider Prediction

Rider started the season with a competitive first half against Virginia, but they ended up getting blown out and only scored 53 points. Rutgers had plenty of talent last season, but they were just 15-17 overall, so they will look to start this season on the right foot. The Scarlet Knights lost a bunch of production from last season, so we will see a brand new team here. Rutgers should have enough talent and athleticism to win this game easily, but I think Rider has a big advantage of playing a game already. Take Rider and all of these points here.
