The Wisconsin Badgers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet Saturday in college basketball action from the RAC. Wisconsin is coming off a loss to Michigan that dropped the Badgers to 16-7 overall. Wisconsin Badgers
The Badgers only lost four of their first 20 games this year in a pretty nice start. Wisconsin fell to Tennessee, Providence, Arizona and Penn State in that time. Wisconsin has since hit the skids on a three-game losing streak though, falling to Nebraska, Purdue and Michigan.
Back on Wednesday versus Michigan, the Badgers were in trouble at halftime with a 37-33 deficit. Wisconsin kept the pace from there on 35 more points but couldn’t gain ground in a 72-68 loss. AJ Storr was the team’s leading scorer on his 20 points, three rebounds and one assist.
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Over on the Rutgers side, they managed a 10-7 run to start the year with losses to Princeton, Illinois, Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Iowa and Michigan State. After losses to Illinois, Purdue and Penn State, the Scarlet Knights recovered with wins over Michigan and Maryland.
In the road matchup versus Maryland on Tuesday, the Knights took a 24-22 deficit into the locker room. Rutgers hit a 34-29 comeback in the second half though, powering out the win 56-53. Leading the team in scoring was Mawot Mag with his 15 points and three rebounds.
ANDREW’S FREE WISCONSIN VS RUTGERS PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Wisconsin. The Badgers need a good bounce-back effort after something of an embarrassing loss to Michigan in their last outing, though. Wisconsin shot well (46.3 percent) in that one but also got out-rebounded 34-28 and had 12 turnovers (leading to 15 Wolverines points). The Badgers have now lost three straight, giving up 72 or more points in each.
As for Rutgers, they’ve got a couple of solid road wins under their belt in the last two games, however they haven’t been scoring all that well. The Knights have fewer than 70 points in five straight outings, so if Wisconsin can keep the gas pedal floored on offense I think the Badgers will be in line for a cover here.
