Portland State went just 2-4 over their first six games this year, beating only Evergreen State and Oregon State. The Vikings are 4-3 since then with wins over Oregon State, Portland Bible College, Air Force and Cal Baptist.
Matched up against Cal Baptist back on December 22, the Vikings went into the break tied at 32-32. Portland State scored 42 points from there and won it 42-40. Cameron Parker led the way on 15 points with four rebounds.
Over on the Sacramento State side, they were 3-3 after six games with losses to UCLA, UC Davis and Hawaii. The Hornets are 4-3 in their last seven outings with victories over Denver, Long Beach State, Fresno State and Stan State.
In Wednesday’s matchup versus Stan State, the Hornets were down 27-19 by the break. Sacramento rallied on a 53-24 second-half run and took the comeback win 72-51. Callum McRae doubled up on 19 points and 15 rebounds.
PICK: I’ll probably take a stab on Portland State here. The Vikings are coming off a nice win over a pretty good Cal Baptist team and they’ve hit 73 or more points in three straight outings. Portland State is just 1-3 in their last four, however. As for Sacramento State, they’ve failed to crack 60 points in two of their last three games but should match up fairly well in this one. Should be a competitive game overall, and I like Portland State to eke out the cover.
